The Cameroon FA has denied it spoke to Lothar Matthaus about taking over as national team manager.
Matthaus has been linked with the role following the resignation of Paul Le Guen, who quit the job after Cameroon failed to make it out of the group stages at the World Cup.
The former Germany captain, who last managed Israeli outfit Maccabi Netanya, told the
Welt am Sonntag newspaper that marital problems prevented him from taking the post.
Matthaus claimed the wife of Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Paul Biya heard of his marriage problems and did not want him to lead the national team.
But Biya has insisted he made no contact with the World Cup winner about taking over the Indomitable Lions.
Biya said in a statement on the Cameroon FA's
official website: "Following declarations made by Mr Lothar Matthaus in some Western media, and echoed by the local media about his reasons for not being hired as coach of the Indomitable Lions, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation wishes to reiterate what had already been said in an interview with the Cameroon Tribune on July 5.
"He wishes to confirm that he has never met Mr Lothar Matthaus.
"The Cameroon Football Federation never discussed this issue with him, therefore it is unbecoming of him to say that his recruitment was stopped by any Cameroonian personality whatsoever."
