PSV Eindhoven closed the gap on leaders FC Twente with a 4-0 win over Heracles, while Ajax thumped Heerenveen 5-1. Heracles were facing an uphill battle from the moment goalkeeper Martin Pieckenhagen was sent off on 29 minutes. PSV made the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Ibrahim Afellay's strike and Balazs Dzsudzsak added a second five minutes after the break. Ola Toivonen made it 3-0 just past the hour mark and Jagos Vukovic sealed the success with a fourth three minutes from time. Ajax were in rampant form in Amsterdam after hitting all five of their five goals in the first half against Heereveen. Demy de Zeeuw put Ajax in control with a brace inside the first 24 minutes and Marko Pantelic made it 3-0 on 28 minutes. Luis Suarez continued his rich vein of form with a fourth from the penalty spot on 35 minutes. Goran Popov reduced the arrears on 39 minutes, but Ismail Aissati restored the four-goal cushion a minute later to complete the rout. VVV Venlo climbed out of trouble at the wrong end of the table with an impressive 5-0 demolition of Sparta Rotterdam. Adil Auassar set VVV on their way with the opener after just six minutes and Achmed Ahahaoui added a second on 25 minutes. A brace from Sandro Calabro (27,43) put the game beyond Sparta and Kevin Van Dessel added a fifth 20 minutes from time. Ten-man ADO Den Haag earned a 1-1 draw at Willem II. ADO Den Haag were reduced to ten men on 37 minutes when Ahmed Ammi was red carded. Despite their numerical disadvantage Karim Soltani gave Den Haag the lead on 66 minutes, but Frank Demouge earned Willem II a point with a 75th minute leveller. Feyenoord missed the chance to keep pace with the chasing pack after being held to a a goalless draw at De Kuip by FC Utrecht.
