Things looked good for Feyenoord when Andre Bahia gave them the lead on 37 minutes, but they were reduced to ten men six minutes after the break when Sekou Cisse saw red.
Sparta drew level on 57 minutes through Rydell Poepon and matters got worse for Feyenoord two minutes later when veteran striker Jon Dahl Tomasson was sent off.
Poepon was dismissed for Sparta on 69 minutes, but the home side grabbed the winner six minutes from time thanks to Kevin Strootman's effort.
