Wood effort to please gaffer

Wycombe's Sam Wood admits he only unleashed his 25-yard screamer at Plymouth Argyle to avoid a telling-off by his manager.

Wood netted just his fourth goal for the Chairboys to break the deadlock in the 3-0 victory at Home Park and he admitted Gareth Ainsworth's desire to see his side shooting from anywhere was behind his decision. "He (Ainsworth) goes mad if you don't shoot, which isn't a bad thing," he told the Bucks Free Pass. "He's all about shooting and crossing. If you don't, you get told off. "Everyone puts balls in the box and we shoot. It's all about taking chances - if you don't shoot, you're never going to score, so we shoot and hopefully they go in." Wood picked up the club's goal of the season award for 2012/13 after a stunning strike against York but he admits he does not spend any extra time focusing on his shooting. "I have a couple of shots in training," he said. "I don't stay late and if anything I practice my corners more than anything."
