Saddlers leave Smith smiling

Walsall manager Dean Smith hailed his players after they pulled off a shock 1-0 victory over local rivals Wolves at Molineux.

Saddlers captain Andy Butler's decisive 69th-minute strike stunned high-flying Wolves, who lost their first league game of the season and their 100% home record in the process. Smith, whose side had lost on penalties to Wolves at Molineux in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy two weeks ago, said: "It was a very good win at what is a difficult place to come. "We were playing against quality players and as a team I thought defensively we were excellent. "It was a great professional performance. We took a lot of belief from beating Crewe in the previous game. I had a game plan and we had to be at our best. "This is a big win for our fans as well. This is the big one for them and it is nice that they will have the bragging rights when they go to work in the morning. "For us it is a great win against a fantastic team who I fully expect to be up there at the end of the season. "It gives you belief when you come to a place like this and get a result but we have to come down to earth pretty quickly because we have got two more unbeaten teams coming up in Rotherham and Leyton Orient. "I said right from the off that there are no easy games in this league and while we will take the plaudits we have to make sure we are not complacent in the next few games that we play. "There are a lot of tough fixtures ahead but when you get wins like this you have to go and celebrate because they don't come around very often.
