Goalkeeper says Bayern players are fired up for Euro 2012

Manuel Neuer believes the current Germany team is stronger than two years ago when they lost to Spain in the World Cup semi-final. The Bayern Munich keeper was in the team which lost 1-0 in South Africa, but believes heading into Euro 2012, Germany deserve their status as one of the favourites. The relatively young side, with an average age of 25, are one of the three leading contenders to lift the trophy, alongside reigning champions Spain and group rivals Holland. Comparing the side of two years ago to the current one, Neuer said: "We have fantastic strength in depth. "We have two equally good players in every position which was not the case in 2010."

Make amends

The 26-year-old shot-stopper also thinks losing to Chelsea in the Champions League final, and missing out on domestic titles, will be a driving force for the Bayern players on the international scene. The defeat on penalties by Chelsea came after Bayern lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the German league and cup. "The Bayern players have a big chance to make amends for a horrible season," he added. "It's a chance we are keen to use and the tournament comes just at the right time."
