Roma defender undergoes successful knee ligament surgery

Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso is expected to be out for up to seven months after undergoing surgery on a knee ligament injury. The Argentina international suffered the injury in his national team's 2-1 win over Colombia in a World Cup qualifier last week. His operation was a success and there is a chance that the experienced stopper could return to action before the end of the season. "The surgery went very well and we are satisfied," said surgeon Giuliano Cerulli, who performed the operation. "It was a complex injury considering that he had damage to his ligaments as well as his kneecap. "The recovery period in these cases is between six and seven months but given Burdisso's temperament and desire he could also be quicker." The 30-year-old Burdisso will begin his rehabilitation next week in Rome, having made 10 Serie A appearances for the club this season.
