Midfield ace feels Cameroon must turn to experienced stars

Achille Emana has called upon Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen to reconsider his approach to the World Cup. The Frenchman opted to go for youth over experience in the Indomitable Lions' opening game of the tournament against Japan. That policy backfired spectacularly as Cameroon slipped to a shock 1-0 defeat, offering little resistance in the process. A number of the squad's seasoned campaigners now feel that Le Guen needs to alter his approach, with Emana of the opinion that the experienced heads need to be drafted back in. "What we have seen in recent games, which we think is unfortunate, is that many young fresh players have been introduced into the team at the expense of experienced ones," he said.

Pressure

"They cannot withstand the sort of pressure that comes with playing in big tournaments such as the World Cup. "That is why we are appealing to the coach to review the line-up for Saturday's game against Denmark." Emana, who is an attacking midfielder by trade, has also expressed his displeasure at often being asked to play out of position for the national side. He added: "More often than not I am not fielded in my right position. I'm made to chase the ball all over the field. And in that case, how do you expect me to be effective?"
