Sporting goalkeeper set for lengthy spell on the sidelines

Sporting Gijon goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar could be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. The 25-year-old shot-stopper has damaged cruciate ligaments in his left knee and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He is set to undergo medical tests on Tuesday in an effort to determine the severity of the problem. Initial reports are not favourable, though, with Cuellar expected to be ruled out of action until next summer. This is the second serious injury suffered by the unfortunate shot-stopper since he joined Sporting in 2008, with a complaint in his right knee preventing him from playing for much of last season. On a more positive note for Manuel Preciado, influential midfielder Michel is almost back to full fitness following an ankle knock. He will be checked by club doctors ahead of the resumption of Primera Liga action this weekend, but is expected to be welcomed back into the fold for Sunday's trip to Xerex.
