Marseille forward rues missed opportunity against Milan

Marseille striker Mamadou Niang is disappointed to have suffered an early setback in the UEFA Champions League. The Senegalese striker was part of Didier Deschamps' side which slipped to a 2-1 defeat against AC Milan on Tuesday in their opening game of the group stages. The Ligue 1 outfit were left bitterly disappointed after the game, having dominated their Italian opponents for long periods at Stade Velodrome. Niang admits Marseille must learn quickly from their European lessons, but is confident they can bounce back over the coming weeks. "I am disappointed with the start we made in the Champions League," he told skysports.com. "I know Milan are a great team, but we should be getting something from these games. We played really well at times. "Milan, though, showed all their experience and their knowledge of the game. "They are a team of so much experience - (Filippo) Inzaghi is still the same goalscorer he has always been, (Clarence) Seedorf still dictates games - but we should have got a least a point out of the game. "Games at home in the Champions League have to bring three points, but we will be ready in the next game. We have to regroup and win in the league at the weekend (against Montpellier)."
