NEC bounce back

NEC recorded their first victory of the new Eredivisie season with a 4-1 win over Heerenveen.

First day defeat forgotten following easy win

NEC Nijmegen recorded their first victory of the new Eredivisie season with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Heerenveen on Friday. The home side bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to Feyenoord as goals from Bjorn Vleminckx, who scored two, Erton Fejzullahu and Youssed El Akchaoui sealed an easy win before Michael Papadopulos' late consolation. Vleminckx opened the scoring after just six minutes when he headed home from Rens van Eijden's cross. NEC had several good chances but were unable to add to their lead until the 56th minute, when a superb pass from Lorenzo Davids set Fejzullahu through on goal.

Reward

Martin Lejsel sprinted from his goal to try to cut off the pass but Fejzullahu took the ball around him and slipped it into the empty net. Lejsel did manage to save Vleminckx's shot a few minutes later but on 65 minutes he was again picking the ball out of the back of the net. There was little he could do about El Akchaoui's free-kick from 27 yards out which flew into the top corner and made it 3-0. And Vleminckx got the reward his performance deserved with the home side's fourth goal eight minutes from time. Heerenveen grabbed a consolation on 85 minutes when Tarik El Younossi's cross fell perfectly between the goalkeeper and his defence to allow Papadopulos a simple finish from just eight yards out.
