Rangers edge past Hibs

Rangers earned a valuable three points with a 3-2 win over Hibernian at Easter Park.

Gers close gap on Celtic with a 3-2 win at Hibs

Rangers earned a valuable three points with a 3-2 win over Hibernian at Easter Road to go to within a point of leaders Celtic. The Gers got off to a lightning start and took an early lead through defender Steven Whittaker after just two minutes. The former Hibernian ace took the ball on his thigh and smashed an unstoppable shot off the underside of the bar. The hosts were level after 34 minutes when Steven Fletcher glanced a header into the far corner of the net after good work down the left by Lewis Stevenson. Andrius Velicka put the visitors back into the lead seven minutes after the break when he hammered home a Steven Davis cross from the right. Rangers extended their lead on 73 minutes when Maurice Edu poked the ball home for his second goal in three games after substitute Kenny Miller had a shot blocked. But just when Walter Smith's side thought they had the game sewn up Hibs hit back through John Rankin with just six minutes remaining. The midfielder scored perhaps the goal of the day when he fired home after Rangers had failed to properly clear a Derek Riordan corner.
