Adam Proudlock's hat-trick brought Grimsby their first win in 10 games as they thrashed local rivals Lincoln 5-1 at Blundell Park to move out of the drop zone.
Grimsby went ahead in the 42nd minute when Danny Boshell crossed from the right and Proudlock flicked the ball over goalkeeper Robert Burch's head.
But Tom Newey then handled in the box and Dany N'Guessan despatched the penalty a minute before the hour.
Newey made amends with a surging run into the box and as he was tackled the loose ball fell to Akpro, who hammered home to restore Town's lead with 12 minutes left.
Then, from a Boshell corner, Akpro saw his header cleared off the line, but Proudlock was on hand to put home the loose ball three minutes later.
A first-time left-foot volley from a Nick Hegarty cross brought Proudlock his hat-trick soon afterwards and Akpro's solo run and finish in the last minute rounded off Grimsby's biggest win of the season.
