Egeman Korkmaz's second-half header saw Besiktas leapfrog Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League.

Turks move into second spot with two games left in Group E

Egeman Korkmaz's second-half header saw Besiktas beat Dynamo Kiev 1-0 and leapfrog their opponents in the Europa League. The Black Eagles, who have now won both their home games in Group E to reach six points, were also indebted to some stunning late saves from Cenk Gonen to keep Dynamo at bay. The top two qualify from the group phase and with two games left Besiktas are now second, a point above the Ukrainians. Besiktas trail Stoke by four points after the group leaders won 2-1 away to bottom side Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Mehmet Aurelio fired over from 25 yards in the fourth minute for Besiktas and a 30-yard free-kick from Oleksandr Aliev whistled wide at the other end.

    Almeida chance

Portuguese forward Hugo Almeida wasted a great chance for the Turkish hosts when he headed Roberto Hilbert's cross wide from six yards after 11 minutes. Aurelio went close for a second time when his 25th-minute shot forced Dynamo goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy to parry, before Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma twice threatened a breakthrough. The former Barcelona and Inter Milan man had a shot blocked by Yevhen Khacheridi before heading another chance wide as the first half entered its last 10 minutes. Quaresma drilled over the first chance of the second period after Tomas Sivok's cross was unconvincingly cleared by Khacheridi, but the hosts did get themselves in front in the 67th minute. Dynamo's Milos Ninkovic handled the ball on the Besiktas right and Simao's set-piece forced the Ukrainians to concede a corner.
    Korkmaz winner
Simao was again the taker, and this time the Portuguese star found the head of Korkmaz, who made no mistake from six yards out. Kiev tried to hit back immediately as Khacheridi headed wide from Aliev's free-kick, and Sivok fired wide from a Simao free-kick in the 74th minute after Carlos Correa's foul on Quaresma. The visitors almost drew level with seven minutes left when Ninkovic headed over Aliev's inswinging corner from 12 yards, before Cenk kept Besiktas in front with a heroic series of saves in stoppage time. First he parried Aliev's header after Andriy Yarmolenko's corner was only partially cleared, before making quickfire blocks to deny Artem Milevskiy and Ayila Yussuf. The final chance fell Aliev's way again, but once more Cenk was able to deny him as the match entered a sixth minute of time added on.
